How do ordinary people select, imagine, and craft their own national heroes through commemorative rituals and charitable volunteering? In what ways does nationalism intertwine with masculinity in the construction of heroes in contemporary China? Join Professor Jacqueline Zhenru Lin in an intellectually stimulating discussion covering these and other thought-provoking topics from her latest book. Dr. Jacqueline Zhenru Lin is a Research Assistant Professor in the Centre for China Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include the use of digital technology in Chinese NGOs, gendered nationalism, war memories, and local histories.

Prof. Sea Ling Cheng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research is focused on sexuality with reference to sex work, human trafficking, women’s activism, and policymaking.
