Yes! The Programme is primarily taught in English; no knowledge of Chinese is required for admission. Many Chinese language courses are available for students in our International Stream to improve their language skills.
China-related scholarship is a key area of research promoted by the University, and as such, our China-related resources are abundant and diverse. Our libraries host one of the most comprehensive collections of China-related resources in the world. Additionally, the Institute for Chinese Studies’ Art Museum’s collection illuminates China’s long history through cultural treasures. Plus, a plethora of China-related lectures and discussions on numerous topics featuring experts from all around the world are consistently offered and available. CUHK is home to over 100 student organizations, associations, clubs, publications, and music ensembles. These various organizations range from department societies and hostel (dorm) associations to clubs promoting magic and teaching tai chi. CUHK promotes a healthy lifestyle, and sports are part of the core values of the university. Students are welcome to join CUHK’s teams and use the facilities. Hong Kong offers the unique opportunity to simultaneously be both inside and outside China: when Britain returned Hong Kong to mainland China in 1997, the mainland Chinese government instituted a policy by which Hong Kong would maintain a great deal of autonomy. As such, Hong Kong – while definitively a Chinese city with easy access to the rest of greater China – can offer students a unique perspective on contemporary China, as well as a space in which to fully discuss China in its entirety.
